2A- Bug List

1.       There is never any parking in the Jennings parking lot when it gets past 8pm.  I either must circle the lot until a spot opens or park in a parking lot a lot further away.
Why: There are more people with cars than available parking spots making it very hard to park if I were to leave Jennings Hall for dinner at night.
2.       When men use a public bathroom sometimes they tend to pee without lifting the seat.  This causes the seat to be gross and need to be cleaned.
Why: People are lazy or trust their abilities to pee when this is typically not the case.
3.       When a waiter memorizes a food order and chooses not to write it down and consequently messes up the order.
Why: It is perceived that it is impressive when one can memorize the order.  However, I would rather the waiter write it down and get everything correct.
4.       When a professor gives a test via scantron and does nor release grades for an extended amount of time.
Why: Scantrons can easily be graded instantaneously to provide quick feedback.
5.       When an iPhone user has the read receipts on and reads your text but does not answer.
Why: It is understood that people are sometimes busy but if you can read a text you can respond to a text.
6.       When your iPhone randomly dies at 10% rather than dying at 1%
Why: When this happens it sometimes means the battery on the phone needs to be replaced.
7.       When you receive many solicitation phone calls each day that ask for money donations.
Why: These phone calls are made to hopefully get money.
8.       When you get a lot of span emails a day after you order something online or sign up for a program.
Why: These companies want you to continue to subscribe or buy from but getting spam emails can clog an inbox and prevent one from seeing important emails.
9.       When you are watching a sporting event on television and the last :30 seconds of the game actually takes 10 minutes because of the time outs and commercials.
Why: The last 30 seconds of a game many people are watching and having commercials when there a lot of viewers is smart but drags out the game.
10.   When you purchase an item online and the actual delivery date is after the estimated delivery date by an extended period time.
Why: It is expected that an item will come in the period given and many people look forward to receiving the items.
11.   When people text and drive and do not pay attention when they are driving.
Why: Phones have become such a necessity to many and people cannot go 10 minutes without responding to a text.  This is very dangerous and can cause car accidents
12.   When people make plans to do something but show up an hour late without any notice.
Why: People lose track of time and may forget what is planned.
13.   When you leave the beach and you have sand everywhere and it is uncomfortable to walk and do daily activities until you shower and wash it all off.
Why: When you go to the beach sand is always a factor.  People try to get all the sand off, but it is very hard to get all of it.
14.   When you go into a restaurant at 9:55 and they close at 10 but they aren’t willing to seat you because they close in five minutes.
Why: The kitchen may be closed and not making food.  However, if they do not close for another five minutes they should still serve food as they technically are not closed.
15.   When using a communal washer or dryer and people leave their clothes in the washer or dryer once the cycle has finished when there are a limited number of machines.
Why: People may forget to take out their items or leave it because they are too busy doing other things to get their clothes.
16.   When a restaurant charges for additional items such as extra salad dressing or extra cheese without expressing that it is an extra cost.
Why: This “nickel and diming” philosophy is help by some restaurants in which they charge for every little thing.
17.   When you drive to a large sporting event such as a football game and when it ends leaving the area of the event takes an hour due to traffic and congestion of other people leaving at the same time.
Why: Thousands of people attend a sporting event at any given time.  This means that there are a lot of cars trying to leave the same area at the same time causing traffic.
18.   When the wi-fi stops working randomly and an important assignment or quiz is due.
Why: Technical problems sometimes causes the wi-fi to stop working for a period.
19.   When the weather app predicts to weather to be sunny all day, but it randomly starts to rain, and you do not have an umbrella.
Why: Although the weather can be predicted, it can change at any time making it unpredictable.
20.   When you have a flight and it gets delayed by a few hours and you must wait in the airport for an extended time.
Why: Sometimes planes take off late from where it is coming from or have maintenance issues making the plane’s departure delayed.

Coming up with the first ten items on my list was not that difficult.  I was able to think of things in every day life that I felt bugged me.  However, coming up with the last ten items on my list was a little difficult.  Going through the motions of my daily routine I found things here and there that bugged me.  This took some time and I could not do just sit down and write them down which I did for the first ten.

  1. Hi Max, I thought your list was interesting and just wanted to provide some insight on one of your points. Number 14, the reason why they won't seat you 5 minutes before closing is because you would be one of the only parties dining in the restaurant at that time and almost the entire restaurant staff has to wait for you to finish your meal in order to start their 1 to 2 hour clean up/closing routine. So the difference is now they'd have to wait an additional 30-45 minutes before they can wrap up and go home.

  2. Hey Max,
I said something very similar in my reflection. Coming up with the first ten items was not difficult as I just went through my daily routine and identified things that would bug me. As I got further down the list I had to expand my search and started to include things that bugged me when I was on vacation or when I traveled. Great job on the post!

  3. Hi Max!
I could not agree with #3 more. That bug especially stuck out to me because it annoys me so much. Recently, I was at a restaurant and the waitress did not write down my order, and I asked for the sauce on the side, but she forgot to put that in the computer. She brought out all of the food and admitted to forgetting that detail, and I was beyond annoyed. Luckily, though, she gave me the sandwich with the sauce on it, and I actually ended up liking it; but she also re-made the sandwich with it on the side, so I got a second sandwich free. It worked out okay that time, but it is still so annoying when they don't just write things down in the first place. You had a lot of good other bugs that I never would have thought of! Nice work!
