3A- Your Entrepreneurship Story

I have been a very big sports fan for as long as I can remember.  While attending sporting events I would often try to meet some of my favorite athletes and attempt to get their autographs.  As a kid and throughout the beginning of my teenage years I tried to build up my autograph collection.  However, at the age of fifteen my friend Jason Bolton introduced me to selling some of my autographs.  I consider this the first time in my life I was exposed to entrepreneurship.  In the beginning stages of selling my autographs I was timid to get rid of certain items because I felt a connection to them.  But, as I grew older I saw new potential in obtaining autographs with the hopes of selling them.  Having a way to make a little bit of money and still attending sporting events excited me.  Selling autographs has taught me many things such as managing my money, interacting with possible customers, dealing with crisis management, and many other things related to sustaining a successful business.  I enrolled in ENT3003 to learn if I am truly interested in entrepreneurship.  As a sport management major, I felt like this class could be very beneficial in learning ways to think like an entrepreneur as it is not always easy.  There are a handful number of books one could read about entrepreneurship, but I felt like taking this class could be way more beneficial and worth my time.

  1. Hello!
I really enjoyed your story because I also collected autographs and sports memorabilia when I was younger. I was never able to sell my collection because, like you mentioned, I began to think of the personal connection I had with my items. I'm in awe that you managed fight the timidness and put profit over emotion in terms of your autographs.

  2. Hi,
I find it interesting that you have started a business of your own. Most of the stories I have read have been about other entrepreneurs, so it is nice to read something a bit different. I am glad you were able to overcome your shyness and turn a hobby into a profit. Hopefully this class helps you learn about being an entrepreneur. Good luck with your business!
